William Penn’s “Holy Experiment” of Pennsylvania not only laid the foundation for core American ideals and values, but also offers an example of who was living in Colonial America and why. Explanation and use of primary sources is at the core of this program.
What was life like in the late 17th Century? Told through the use of primary sources and interactive activities, this program shares the stories of individuals who lived in earlyPennsylvania. Each story demonstrates what life was like for men and women, free and enslaved, Native American and immigrant. Together, these stories illustrate the diversity of Colonial life as well as providing a basis for understanding the historical process.
