Objectives:
· Analyze the impact of the complex history and content relating to the advancement of civil rights
· Engage in learning about diversity and becoming knowledgeable of people’s biases and how these contribute to discrimination and oppression
· Explore personal values and beliefs and apply critical thinking when communicating with others
· Be aware of the ways in which cultural and background factors affect perceptions of different communities
· Recognize at a beginning level the impact of diversity on human relationships
· Develop skills to create strategies to advocate for social and economic justice for oppressed populations
In this program, a 16th Street Tour guide will use the immersive and interactive Xplore AR platform to place students in the center of Birmingham’s Civil Rights District and National Monument while the presenter physically moves through some of the defining moments of Birmingham, spanning from the Church's founding in 1873 to present day.
